Veteran Congress leader and ex-Kerala Assembly Speaker, PP Thankachan, passed away aged 86 at a private hospital in Aluva on Thursday. The politician, who held key roles in the Congress and its alliance, had been under treatment for age-related ailments and a chest infection, and was on ventilator support. Elected from Perumbavoor in 1982, he represented the constituency until 2001.
