Fossil of a giant shark has been found off northern Australia that lived 115 million years ago. The five recovered vertebrae reveal it belonged to a modern lamniform. Each vertebra measures around 12 centimetres, indicating the species reached sizes larger than expected. Tomography and size modelling suggest this ancient shark may have rivalled today's biggest predators.
