The Karnataka government has banned use of cold and cough syrups for children below two years of age. It also prohibited use of 'Coldrif' cough syrup which has been linked to recent deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. It added, for children between 2 and 5 years of age, cough syrups should generally be avoided unless clearly indicated.
