Silver warq is an ultra-thin foil of pure silver. Traditionally, pure silver was beaten into thin sheets to make chandi ka warq to decorate sweets. It's said that to flatten silver sheets, artisans placed them between layers of animal tissue. However, FSSAI banned the use of animal-based materials in 2016, News18 reported. Today, artisans use plant-based/synthetic alternatives to make warq.
