A recent study by the University of Mississippi found that 45% of all microplastic pollution comes from cars. Every time a vehicle moves, its tires shed tiny microplastics, the research stated, adding that rain washes those tire wear particles into ditches, where they flow into water bodies. Aquatic animals ingest these particles along with toxic chemicals, harming the food chain.
