Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Andhra's Srikakulam, where a stampede broke out on Saturday, hadn't taken permission for such a large gathering, NDTV reported, citing state government sources. The authorities weren't informed, the report said, adding "Sri Venkateswara Swamy is a private temple and does not fall under the endowments department." At least nine devotees died in the stampede.
