California health officials confirmed that Lake Tahoe resident tested positive for bubonic plague after being bitten by an infected flea. The patient is currently under medical care, said authorities. According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, there's average of seven cases of human plague reported in US annually. If caught early, the illness is treatable with antibiotics.
