A commission of The Lancet journal proposed a new definition of obesity, moving beyond simple cutoff mark for Body Mass Index (BMI), which has been used as the standard worldwide. Overweight category has been replaced with Preclinical Obesity, where a person has excess fat but no illness. 'Clinically obese' would be used for those with chronic illnesses caused by weight.
