A study conducted by scientists at University of California found that making male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes deaf prevents them from mating with female mosquitoes, which can thereby reduce their population. Scientists believe this could help control mosquito-spread diseases like dengue, yellow fever, etc. The researchers targeted a protein which is apparently important for hearing in mosquitoes.
