World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) warned that 2025 could be second or third warmest year on record, making 2015-2025 the hottest 11 years in history. Global surface temperatures from January to August 2025 were 1.42°C above pre-industrial levels, organisation added. WMO chief said it's "virtually impossible" to limit global warming to 1.5°C soon without temporarily overshooting the target.
