The clay idol of Goddess Durga in Varanasi’s Purana Durga Badi temple has remained in the same spot for over 250 years, according to local legend. The idol was installed years ago, and attempts to move it for immersion always failed, following which it was left at the spot permanently. Jaggery, chickpeas, fruits, and sweets are offered at the temple.
