Stretches of the East Coast Road (ECR) beach near Chennai glowed with fluorescent blue waves on Friday night. The natural phenomenon was caused by bioluminescence, which is the ability of certain living organisms, including jellyfish and fireflies, to produce light. Several residents rushed to witness the glowing waves, pictures and videos of which were shared widely on social media.
