Archaeologists have discovered 5,000-year-old human skull cups and bone masks from the Liangzhu culture in China. The sculpted remains, found in canals with pottery and animal bones, appear to be discarded ritual items. Researchers said that the practice reflects changing views of death and identity as ancient Liangzhu society became more urbanised and socially complex.
