A study found the presence of radioactive element uranium in 40 breast milk samples collected from lactating mothers in six Bihar districts. The research has linked breastmilk contamination to the presence of uranium in groundwater and possibly the local food chain. The mothers may have ingested contaminated water or food from the same locations.
