As the Opposition nominated B Sudershan Reddy as their candidate, the parties termed the Vice Presidential contest an "ideological battle". In a joint statement, they expressed that the Constitution and democracy are under assault and that Reddy fully reflects their values. "He (Reddy) has been a consistent and courageous champion of social, economic, and political rights," the statement read.
