The Supreme Court has ruled that a gift under Mohammedan Law does not require a written document to be valid. "A written document recording a gift doesn't become a formal instrument of gift," it said, stressing that proof of possession is essential. The judgment came in a plea over partition and possession of agricultural land in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district.
