Businessman Nitin Tawade was convicted by Thane's Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate for cheque dishonour and sentenced to imprisonment with a ₹20 lakh fine. The case arose after four cheques, each for ₹2.5 lakh, were dishonoured out of the ₹17 lakh Tawade borrowed from Santosh Palshikar. The court mandated that the fine be paid to the complainant as compensation within three months.
