Taiwan President Lai Ching-te announced a $40 billion special budget to buy arms amid growing invasion threats from China. The funds will be used to build a Taiwan Dome, an air-defence system with advanced detection and interception capabilities. The budget has been allocated from 2026 to 2033. Lai earlier pledged to raise defence spending to 5% of GDP.
