Biologists have discovered a new mouse opossum species, Marmosa chachapoya, in the remote cloud forest of Río Abiseo National Park in Peru. Just four inches long, the reddish-brown marsupial has distinctive facial markings. The new species has been named Marmosa chachapoya, in honour of the Chachapoya people native to northern Peru.
