An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck Afghanistan near Mazar-e Sharif, one of the largest cities of the country. At least 20 people have lost their lives, with the US Geological Survey warning of "significant casualties" and "potentially widespread" disaster. The powerful tremors were felt mere hours after another smaller quake struck the Hindu Kush region.
