The Election Commission of India has opposed BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay’s plea for a mandatory nationwide 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR) exercise before every parliamentary and assembly election. "Any direction to conduct a 'SIR' at regular intervals throughout the country would encroach upon the exclusive jurisdiction of the ECI," it said. This comes amid a row over 'SIR' in Bihar.
