Former Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran said that even if a trade deal on Russian oil purchases is reached, India–US relations will not return to where they were before the sanctions. Saran also endorsed PM Narendra Modi’s decisions to skip the ASEAN summit and the Gaza peace summit, thereby avoiding possible meetings with US President Donald Trump.
