The government has shared steps to detect artificial colour in turmeric (haldi) powder. Add turmeric powder in a glass of water. If the colour changes to dark yellow instead of light yellow, the turmeric is adulterated with artificial colour. To check for lead chromate adulteration, put turmeric whole in water. The water will turn bright yellow if it is adulterated.
