World Health Organization (WHO) flagged rise of drug-resistant bacterial infections, warning that one in six laboratory-confirmed bacterial infections globally were resistant to antibiotic treatments in 2023. Antimicrobial-resistant superbugs directly account for over 1 million deaths annually, WHO said. "We're running out of treatment options and we're putting lives at risk," said a WHO official.
