US President Donald Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping "understands the consequences if China attempts to invade Taiwan." When asked if he'd send US forces to respond if China invades Taiwan, Trump said, "You'll find out if it happens...I can't give away my secrets". While US recognises only Beijing under One China policy, it continues to supply weapons to Taiwan.
