West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee shared a song written and composed by her on the occasion of Mahalaya. "Awake, Durga, awake, bearer of ten weapons," she captioned the song on X. Mahalaya Amavasya marks the end of Pitru Paksha and the countdown to Durga Puja. It's believed that Goddess Durga descends to Earth on this day to defeat Mahishasura (demon).
