The pink fire retardant being used amid the wildfires in Los Angeles is called Phos-Chek. A US professor said that it is a mixture of water, fertiliser, and the pink colour is rust, and is used to extinguish or slow down the spread of fires. Phos-Chek commonly contains two types of salt - diammonium phosphate and ammonium polyphosphate.
