Scientists have uncovered a 73-million-year-old fossil in Arctic Alaska, marking the oldest known member of the salmon family. Found in the Prince Creek Formation, the species, named Sivulliusalmo alaskensis, predates previous salmonids by about 20 million years. The findings also revealed two new pike species and the earliest members of the carp and minnow lineages.
