'Ostrich Effect' refers to people's tendency to avoid uncomfortable or negative information. The name comes from the common, but incorrect, belief that ostrich 'bury their heads in sand' to avoid danger. Recently, Chicago University researchers found that this tendency grows stronger as children age, with those aged 7-10 being more likely to "strategically avoid" learning something.
