Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered closure of 18 loss-making government-run hotels, including Chail's The Palace Hotel, Dharamshala's Kashmir House, and Dalhousie's Geetanjali, by November 25. Calling them white elephants, court stated tourism corporation struggled to pay employees' salaries and pensions. The department operates 56 hotels in Himachal, many of which have run at a loss for years.
