According to media reports, there are five contenders for the post of Chief Minister in Manipur after Biren Singh resigned from the post on Sunday. Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, who is currently serving as Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, and Basanta Kumar Singh are among the five contenders. Other contenders include Radheshyam Singh, Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Biswajit Singh.
