A new digital map of the ancient Roman Empire's road network shows it was about 60% larger than earlier believed. Tom Brughmans of Aarhus University and his team recreated how the road network looked around AD 150. Their project, Itiner-e, used topographic maps, historical records, and satellite images to chart the length of these roads which is roughly 3,00,000 km.
