World number one chess player Magnus Carlsen said late American Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky would quite often checkmate him. Carlsen noted Naroditsky's style was different from his, adding, "What was interesting about him was that he was able to drum up attacks out of nothing...For me, that clash of style was extremely interesting." Carlsen called Naroditsky's demise "a great loss".
