Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has approved a bill that allows amendments to the Panchayati Raj and Municipal Acts, enabling higher reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body polls. He also permitted the issue of a Gazette notification allowing state to lift 50% cap on total quotas. The amended laws will now allow 42% reservation for BCs in elections.
