Former England captain Joe Root on Thursday hit a hundred on Australian soil for the first time ever. The 34-year-old reached the three-figure mark off 181 deliveries in England's first innings on Day 1 of the second Ashes Test at the Gabba. Prior to today, Root had played 46 innings without scoring a hundred.
