As per Supreme Court Judges (Amendment) Rules, 2022, retired Chief Justices of India (CJIs) can retain Type VII government bungalow for six months post-retirement. It's one level below the designated Krishna Menon Marg residence of sitting CJI. In an exception, ex-CJI DY Chandrachud was allowed to stay at the property until April 2025.
