Indian Grandmaster Gukesh D suffered his first defeat in classical chess as world champion, losing to compatriot Arjun Erigaisi in the final round of Tata Steel Masters 2025 in Wijk aan Zee. Arjun won the match with black pieces, registering his second straight win in the tournament. Gukesh had become world champion after defeating Ding Liren in December 2024.
