The SOAR Telescope Echelle Spectrograph (STELES) has captured the first high-resolution full-spectrum image of the binary star system Eta Carinae in Atacama Desert. The spectrum disperses its light into a vibrant rainbow, revealing atomic and molecular details of its atmosphere. Each colour carries information about the chemical composition, temperature, and motion of the gas within the system.
