Supreme Court held that courts cannot impose the payment of alimony as a condition for granting bail in matrimonial disputes. It said the conditions of bail must be relevant to ensuring a free/fair trial. It delivered the ruling while setting aside a Patna court order, which required a man to pay ₹4,000-maintenance to his "wife" as a condition for bail.
