US researchers have reversed ageing in blood-forming stem cells in mice by correcting defects in the stem cell's lysosomes. They identified lysosomal hyperactivation and dysfunction as main factors of stem cell ageing. The researchers rejuvenated aged stem cells with concanamycin A to calm overactive lysosomes and restore normal pH, enhancing the regenerative capacity of stem cells.
