"In the past year, she has been forced to live in hiding...Despite serious threats against her life, she has remained in Venezuela," Jørgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said. She briefly appeared to protest in January 2025 against Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
