NASA's Perseverance rover has detected 55 electric events inside Martian dust devils and storms. The sparks form through triboelectric charging, where tiny dust grains collide and rub together, building static charge. Because Mars' atmosphere is extremely thin, even small amounts of charge can break down the air and create visible electrical discharges, NASA researchers stated.
