The Karnataka government has banned hookah bars and increased the legal age for buying tobacco products from 18 to 21. "In addition to existing ban on tobacco consumption in public places, chewing and spitting tobacco has also been prohibited," the State Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said. The fine for smoking in public has been increased from ₹200 to ₹1,000.
