A 26-year-old man, Awadhesh Rana, returned ₹31 lakh that the bride's family brought during a ceremony in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar. Instead, he accepted only ₹1 as shagun. "I have no right to take this. This is the bride's father's hard-earned money. I cannot accept it," Rana said while refusing to take the dowry.
