Scientists have revealed that Elaeocarpus angustifolius, known as blue fig, is the only known fruit that looks blue without any pigment. The fruit's skin contains ultra-thin layers of cellulose arranged in nanoscale patterns, which reflect only blue wavelengths of light. When they tried extracting pigment, the material turned grey, confirming its metallic blue hue is structural, not chemical.
