Australia accused China of hacking into its telecom networks and other infrastructure to steal sensitive data. Director General of Australian Security Intelligence Mike Burgess revealed that Beijing's espionage cost Canberra $8.1 billion last year. However, China has rejected such claims. Its foreign ministry said Burgess' remarks "spread false narratives and deliberately provoked confrontation".
