The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that ₹2,000 banknotes worth ₹5,884 crore are still in circulation as of September 30, down from ₹6,181 crore in May this year. "Thus, 98.35% of the ₹2,000 banknotes in circulation as on May 19, 2023, have since been returned," RBI said. RBI announced the withdrawal of ₹2,000 denomination banknotes from circulation in 2023.
