In 2015 Bihar polls, BJP-led NDA fought without JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, winning 59 seats. Mahagathbandhan swept the elections winning 178 seats (RJD - 80, JD(U) - 71 and Congress - 27). Meanwhile, in 2020, with Nitish back in the NDA, the alliance won 125 seats. While within Mahagathbandhan, RJD secured 75, its ally Congress managed to get 19 seats.
