Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma requested the government to delete the words 'socialist' and 'secular' from the Preamble as they are a legacy of the Emergency, which should be "wiped out". He said secularism is against the concept of 'sarva dharma samabhava (equal respect for all religions)' and socialism is against 'sarvodaya antyodaya (progress of all, upliftment of the poorest)'.
