Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan alleged 'Thudarum' was plagiarised from one of his unrealised projects. "It's [Thudarum] made by stealing skeleton of my screenplay, Theeyattam, which I wrote in 2020," said Sanal. He added, "The core of it, however, remains safe...because they lacked intelligence to understand its essence...[or] deliberately avoided it in attempt to rewrite it unrecognisably."
